Transformable Classrooms for Savonlinna Vocational College

We created a convenient transformable learning space for Savonlinna Vocational College (Samiedu), a secondary and upper secondary vocational institution located in the city of Savonlinna. Two Optimal 110 sliding walls allow for quickly dividing the space into separate classrooms, provide acoustic comfort thanks to 45 dB sound insulation, and blend harmoniously into the interior. Thanks to our structures, the college will be able to use its space efficiently, creating comfortable learning facilities for all students.

Samiedu has approximately 2,000 students aged 16 to 60 enrolled in various programmes. One third of the students study in one of the vocational training programmes offered by Samiedu, while two thirds are adult students studying at vocational secondary schools in programmes leading to further or specialised vocational qualifications, or in apprenticeship programmes. Finnish vocational education is largely based on an individualised competence-based approach and workplace learning, so the duration of a study programme can vary from one to three years depending on the individual study plan drawn up for each student at the beginning of their studies. Samiedu also organises short-term vocational training courses in various fields.

To provide students with convenient, well-equipped classrooms, the college needs to manage its learning space efficiently. That is why Samiedu approached us with a request to create additional transformable classrooms. The height of the structures is 3 metres, and the lengths are 6.42 and 3.39 m. The partition surfaces are made of CPL laminated with magnetic marker coating inserts.

The magnetic marker coating can be used as a fully functional whiteboard: you can write on it, place various learning materials on it, and use it as a screen for a projector. Thus, the new transformable classrooms not only allow for efficient zoning of the space, but also become a multifunctional tool for everyday learning, meeting the modern requirements of Finnish vocational education.
